The Residence Welcomes Community to Senior Fun Fair

On Thursday, June 13th, The Residence at Tall Pines, a Retirement and Assisted Living community on the Tall Pines campus, welcomed area seniors to a day of fun. Of course, folks of all ages were invited.

The Senior Fun Fair kicked off with music performed by local fiddler Julia Plumb and dance lessons compliments of Chrissy Fowler of Belfast Flying Shoes.  Residents, volunteers, guests and staff all flocked to the dance floor, where they enjoyed learning traditional dances.  “I think everyone really loved the dancing!  The way Chrissy taught it made it really easy to learn so everyone could just relax and enjoy themselves.  And Julia’s fiddling added an extra level of depth to the experience,” said Executive Director Matt Griswold, who learned some new steps.

Once the dancing concluded, everyone enjoyed a barbecue lunch with traditional fare.  Burgers and hot dogs were popular, but not as much as the chicken breasts.  Chef Andrew had smothered them in The Residence Signature Sauce, his not-so-secret, house-made barbecue sauce.  He was even generous enough to provide copies of the recipe to anyone who wanted them!

As the barbecue wound down, the clouds became thicker and the threat of rain increased.  So the festivities moved inside.  King Perogi performed their polka music on the balcony for everyone’s entertainment.

While most of the party-goers settled in to listen to the band, a few brave souls tried their hands at Corn-hole, a fun but challenging bean bag toss game.  Those who tried it got the hang of the game pretty quickly, with the top three participants earning medals.

On top of all of the other festivities, raffle drawings were held at different points throughout the day with a variety of prizes.  Two lucky winners received hair services by Sharon Merry at The Residence’s salon.  Two other winners each got dinners for two in the Residence’s dining room.  And one winner got the last prize, a fabulous cook’s gift bag filled with a variety of kitchen gadgets and topped off with a copy of Panache, The Resident Council cookbook.  Panache is filled with recipes and tips from current and past residents and staff.

Given the wonderful time had by all who came, The Residence is now planning to make this Fun Fair an annual event!  For more information on The Residence or the events that take place there, go to or call 930.7031.
