Images of America-Belfast Book

The Belfast Historical Society is pleased to announce the publication of BELFAST a new book in the Arcadia Publishing’s’ Images of America series. The rich selection of photographs found in this volume will bring the past closer to its readers. Books are available for purchase at the Belfast Museum, 10 Market Street. The book, which recounts the history of Belfast in both text and photographs from the first settlement in 1770 to 1953 when Belfast celebrated 100 years under City governance. The book was co-authored by Megan S. Pinette, president of Belfast Historical Society and Museum and Jane B. McLean, storyteller and teacher.  Mr. Earle G. Shettleworth, Jr., Maine State Historian, wrote the foreword.

In Maine’s bicentennial year, the Belfast Historical Society and Museum is making a lasting contribution to the history of its city and state through the publication of BELFAST. During the last three decades, Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series has produced many valuable pictorial histories of Maine towns and cities. Together these books comprise the single greatest published archive of historical photographs of the state.
